The UK’s Joint Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) now advises a non-urgent offer of two 10 mcg doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (Comirnaty®) to children aged 5 to 11 years of age who are not in a clinical risk group. The 2 doses will be offered with an interval of at least 12 weeks between doses (and no earlier than 12 weeks after COVID infection).  The intention of this offer is to increase the immunity of vaccinated individuals against severe COVID-19 in advance of a potential future wave of COVID-19.  For further information please read the information at this link.

Many families in SHAPE and Brussels will already have accepted the Belgian offer and may send us details for the child’s NHS record. For those who have not, there are some differences between programmes.  The dose is the same, but the interval between doses is 12 weeks on the UK program.   There is no current electronic certification for this age group on the NHS system.

We have just received stock of vaccine and have a short timeframe in which to use it.  To allow for planning please indicate as soon as possible if you intend to take up this offer. You will be offered an appointment (noting leave period and school times) for an immunisation clinic in April.  Should you have any queries regarding this offer please send them directly to UKStratCom-DMS-DPHC-MON-Grp@mod.gov.uk  and we will be happy to help.
